Default For anyone who went from Xbox 360 to the One S

I didn't find any threads on this so here goes...

I have been in semi-retirement from gaming since my first son was born in 2012 (its just a fuzzy memory), and now getting the itch to get back into it now that kids are older and I may actually have some free time here and there. The Xbox One S looks great, but I do still have my old 360. Just trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on an upgrade.

Any thoughts or advice from anyone who made the jump from 360 directly to the One S? What are the best aspects you have personally enjoyed the most about the upgrade and is it worth the price of admission? I should also say that I am not likely to be in the market for Project Scorpio given the anticipated entry price of the console being around $500-600.

    Thanks~

    Hey DJ,

The jump is easy. Your LIVE subscription is the same one, so no need to change anything there. Same gamertag and account.

Scorpio is more going to be for the hardcore fans that also have a 4K and HDR TV, but the price is unannounced yet.

Fact is there's no more 360 games being made, so you're going to find little to play the longer time goes on on your 360. Many games are backwards compatible on Xbox One as well, so even if you don't buy a ton of games for the One, many of your 360 games will still work just fine. We actually have an ongoing updated list here of which are backwards compatible: http://xboxaddict.com/xbox-one-backw...tibility-list/

Feel free to ask any more questions if you're still on the fence

    Thanks for the reply.

I knew about backward compatibility, and its a bit annoying that some of my games are not on the list (Skyrim, Madden NFL Arcade to name a couple). I didn't think about new games being less and less available for the 360, so that's a good consideration. Mainly I am looking for impressions from upgraders on performance. Compared to the 360, does the One S run more quietly? Does it seem to have less lag when loading games or loading new areas in the same game? If you played the same game on both consoles, what kinds of performance improvements would I notice on the One S? Also, I am not familiar with the new Xbox dashboard, is it designed with an improved layout and does it lag at all between menus?

The dashboard has been improved greatly since launch. There's even a newer version coming out the public soon and it runs quite snappy.

Game loading varies game to game. Because games are bigger and do more, sometimes loading takes longer, but it's not a simple numbers vs numbers for XB1 vs 360, as games are different.

System is silent. It was meant to be on 24/7 with the TV input, and I have friends that have left it on since launch essentially. I'm still using the launch day system, not the S, but should be even better.

If you play a game on 360 vs XB1, you'll see the large difference. There's not many games that come out for both anymore, as 360 is basically done, but it's a substantial jump, especially if you got a 4K TV with HDR (I don't and games still look great).

Yeah ok, I want one. Definitely liking what I see of Forza Horizon 3.

I'm thinking I'll go with the 500 GB bundle and then get an external if and when I need more storage. Maybe an external SSD will be affordable by then.

EDIT: It's just so annoying that I won't be able to play my 360 copy of Skyrim. I want to keep playing that game on the new console, but I don't want to buy a new copy.

Yea, our reviewer LOVED Forza Horizon 3: http://xboxaddict.com/Staff-Review/X...Horizon-3.html

Yea, any external will work. No need to spend the extra cash on an SSD, as the performance isn't as drastic as you think since it has to be used via USB anyways.

Check out the Special Edition of Skyrim. I know it sucks buying again, but the improvements are quite drastic, just wait for a sale on it.

Everything that Adam said is bang on.

Microsoft has been improving the user experience since day one. The Insider Hub is something you might want to explore too, to get your feet wet with experiencing things prior to them being released to the masses.

I for one am fairly happy with the dashboard, and the new one is even going to be quicker with some much needed additions and changes.

If you can, once you fill your 500GB internal, get an external SSD. For me, I have a 1TB external SSD that I put my most played games on, and it indeed is faster to load and whatnot.

On a side note, I played, and reviewed, Forza Horizon 3....YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.

    Cheers,

    The Outcast

So if I bite the bullet and shell out for the Skyrim special edition, will I at least be able to upload my 360 version game saves to the cloud first so that I can access them on the One S and not lose my progress?

Well, I just did some googling and confirmed that Skyrim for 360 saves do not work on the Special Edition version for Xbox One. WTF?!?

This really blows. I don't know how many hours I spent on that game, it has to be 100 hours give or take. So to continue that character/progress, I would have to keep my 360 and play it there. Not to mention that if I want to experience the special edition on the new console I would have to buy that version also AND have two games going at the same time. This is not good news.

Yea, not sure why they couldn't do the save transfer (it's possible with other games), but it is what it is.

So Forza H3 and skyrim are on my list. Additionally I will rely on backward compatibility and play my 360 games (the ones that work). I'm not really into 1st person shooters, so any recommendations for 1 or 2 other must have games?

I typically like RPGs, sports, racing, and platformers like Mario, etc.

RPG: Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Dragon Age Inquisition

Get an EA Access membership for 30 bones and you'll have plenty to play instantly. Titanfall, Peggle, PvZ Garden Warfare 1 and 2, Dragon Age and a crap load more.
