Batman Vengeance has a good look to it, and great voice acting, but it falls apart in it's execution of the gameplay. It's a game that desperately needed to be more open-ended, with freedom to explore on your own. Instead you are locked into nearly a rail-shooter style of gameplay in which you follow a linear path."

Overall: This game is pretty good for the younger age group, not something i'd reccomend for teens. It has some interesting puzzles and it's fun fighting badguys with special moves and combos. Pretty ez to beat
Gameplay: Gameplay is pretty good. Controls are easy. It's usually pretty obvious what you need to do next and where to go.
Graphics: I think this game is pretty good visual wise. smooth look to it and the bat cape is nice. Not the best graphics ever.
Sound: The sound was nice. Nothing ever seemed boring and repeatitive. I didn't see anything wrong with the sound.
Suggestions: make some more special moves

Overall: Batman Vengeance doesn't break any new ground on the Xbox nor doesn't try anything new. It's a good game that truly engrosses the player into the role of Batman while demonstrating simple, but well-designed gameplay mechanics. Though there's little to explore in this game and the length is a bit short (eight hours to finish), Batman Vengeance is a solid effort that fans of both action games and of the Dark Knight needn't wait for the signal to get.

Gameplay: Mixing first and third person perspectives sounds cool, but it's not executed quite as cool. Still, nothing beats pummleing punks and driving the Batmobile.
Graphics: It keeps to the look and feel of the animated series and that's good. Unfortunately, the style is rather simple and a bit dull for a video game. Frame rate is super smooth and animation is well-done
Sound: A good mix of excellent voices and moody music. Sound effects are decent. not bad... but not that amazing.

Date reviewed: January 28, 2003.

Overall: First let me say this, I agree with mrgrod below that the bad reviews that have been given to this game are extremely unfair. This game does not belong in the bottom 25 of Xbox games. As far as the game itself, if you are not a big fan of the animated series then you are naturally going to be put off by the graphics. However I found them to be true to the show even if they were a tad on the dark side.
Gameplay: One of the gripes I have about this game is that the equipment is on a find basis only, like batman would leave the batcave without batcuffs. Slightly annoying, but the game might be too easy without it, so I let it slide. As for the fighting in the game, I thought that the super combo things were cool, but it could have been a little more in-depth fighting wise. Typical tomb-raider third person action style, nothing too inventive.
Graphics: Just like the Animated Series, only darker (shading not story), at least in game. Cut scenes are 3d models with the same type of less detail animation. I think the cut scenes could have been improved by sticking with the animated series and importing some cartoon type scenes instead of attempting to use 3d CGI animation.
Sound: Music wasn't bad, stuck to the series, and the voice acting was the same as the show. You can't get much better then Hamill as the voice of the Joker, and Kevin Conroy as Batman.
Suggestions: make the fighting mechanics better, don't make the game so dark, and have more cut scenes with Mr. Freeze.

Overall: This is a fun game if you get past the graphic flaw. Batman takes you in and out of different situations, sometimes too cut up with cutscenes, but entertaining to me anyway. I agree with other posters about a too low rating. This is not the best but if this is the worst then even Batman cant rescue the Xbox.
Gameplay: I liked the way Batman flies about, fights thugs and the like. It has a rather funny AI at times, funny meaning characters have no sense. Could use longer levels, at least at first. The story gets over complicated at the end, and just when you've mastered the Batwing and Batmobile you end up not using them again. This is unreasonably fustrating, to have a game skill and not use it. Still it is fun to use the available tools and the levels can get challenging but not over difficult.
Graphics: This is the bullet that killed the Bat. I'm not saying it's bad, just that it's different. The developers tried to follow the cartoon animation with the dark and the vacant faces (on thugs). I would have liked to see more departure from the cartoon as the game looks slightly unfininshed compared to what the xbox can do.
Sound: The voice acting works here. They all sound as they should, a cartoon come to life. The defeat of some lesser thugs is repetative, the same groan after groan. Music wise was fitting to the mood of the game but not something thats Top 40
Suggestions: Dark Tomorrow should let you play with Bat toys longer, and not let the graphics hide in the shadows.

Overall: Right off the bat I want to say that the only reason I'm reviewing this game is to bump up the averages for this game. several people who reviewed it so far have obviously rated it unrealistically low just because they didn't particularly like it. I have owned over 30 Xbox games, and trust me, Batman is NOT one of the 5 worst games out there. I'm not saying it's the best, but it deserves a little more respect than it's getting (I mean come on, NO Xbox games out right now deserve a 1...seriously). That's why I'm giving it all 5's in the actual ratings. In reality I'd say it's a 3 overall.
Gameplay: This is where Batman DID NOT shine. It was kinda choppy, and like others have said, the camera angles were atrocious sometimes.

Gameplay: 2.5
Graphics: The graphics were surprisingly good, based on what I had heard about the title before playing it. The images could have been a little sharper, and the colors a little brighter (I know the Batman series is dark anyways, but this was a little ridiculous). Overall, not bad, not great graphics.

Visual Appeal: 3.5
Sound: The sound was unremarkable, but I'm no audiophile so that really didn't make much difference to me. I'll say...

Audio: 3
Suggestions: Take your time, do it right. You'll sell a lot more copies of a great title than an OK one. This game was teetering on greatness, but you just didn't fine tune the little things...like natural, fluid gameplay and sharp, Xbox quality graphics.

Overall: I have to say this game isn't as bad as everyone say's it is. Yes, it was irratating and annoying at times but was a overall fun game. The gadgets that batman had where cool. When driving vehicles that was also fun. There were many bugs in this game. Many problems hopefully the upcoming Batman game "Dark Tommrow" can recover from its deep hole.
Gameplay: The controls in this game were horendess. It was very loose and irratating. Gadgets were hard to get out and use. Even getting confortable with these controls you won't be 100% with the gameplay.
Graphics: This game is based on the batman cartoon. The graphics could of had more detail to them and expression. Buildings, weapons, enimies, ect... all had no detail. The only thing in this game that looked good was yours truley, (Batman)
Sound: The sound was medicore. It did sound good at parts but at other parts it just didn't flow. The voices sounded clear and understandable. That is the best sound in this batman adventure.
Suggestions: Please make the next batman game good. I want to play a very good batman game for once..

Overall: Overall appeal? None. Normally, I'm not this sarcastic, but in all truthfullness, it has no overall appeal. I just wish that I had listened to the previous reviewers before purchasing this game. At least I only paid $25 CAD for it though...
Gameplay: Hard to play. The main reason I say this, is the camera angles at times just plain and simple suck. There is no way to rotate the camera unless you are in freelook mode. Another thing that got me is you can only handcuff the bad guys if you have batcuffs in your inventory. IMHO, dumb. There is just no other way to put it.
Graphics: Visually, this game rates right up there with my Atari game system that I tossed in the garbage I don't even remember how long ago. Just kiddin... It's not that bad. The cut scenes are not too awful, but the fact that Batman looks like he has a hanger stuck between his lip and his jaw don't help much either.
Sound: Ok. I guess. I was just so disappointed with the other aspects of this game, that by the time I was "listening" to the music or sounds, I was just tired of the game.
Suggestions: Where can I get my $$$ back from?

Overall: Ok I admit this game is designed !&%$@#* backwards in many ways. Over all the Video scenes need to be aloud to be INTERRUPTED, it gets old sitting through batman talking the same old lines.
Gameplay: Don't get me started on how lame they made the control. You can't even use the batgrappling on anything you want. You can't strike / use weapons on the bad guys that are down. And jumping and grabbing you can't Jump up to a place you need to be when you can jump up higher anywhere else with ease. But where you need to be you suddenly just can't reach even though you can jump higher than a ledge, COME ON! Plus there should be a level skip cheat for this game... Invisibility and imortal like lifebar with unlimited weapons are a nice feature, I mean, Hell you should have ALL the weapons from the start, what did batman ACCIDENTALY leave all his batarangs in boxes around town by accident? NO! they're sitting in his freaking batcave!
Graphics: WOW they sure did slap this SHITE together REAL Freaking fast, ZIG XAG like lines around the eyes poor coloring here.... and there.. But I must say the Joker does looke awsome. No complaints there.
Sound: EH I don't really care for it... Nothing to special there. I personally am waiting for Batman Beyond on XBox not that Old crap return of the joker a Brand new Batman beyond on Xbox thats all I care about.
Suggestions: Hmmmmm YA make a Batman Beyond and TAKE the TIME to make it right! ALSO It's kinda obvious that The Woman he's been saving is really Harley the Jokers babe, I mean the EXACT same voice same body eyes ect. That it's a TRAP, No surprise there. Although Nice rack on her.

Overall: This game's appeal is based on the fact that you are playing as the dark knight. That's about it. It is a port of a port of a port, so it really isn't even xbox worthy.
Gameplay: The gameplay is fun, what there is of it. There just doesn't seem to be much to the game. I'd say that the levels are short, but that would lead the reader to believe that they are longer than they are. The gameplay is good but there's not much of it.
Graphics: There is not much visual appeal. It looks good, but no better than on the PS2 and certainly not as good as it should on xbox. The game is a port of a port of a port and really not even worthy of the xbox. It takes advantage of nothing the xbox has to offer.
Sound: The sound is marginally decent, but nothing spectacular. If you are looking for great sound, this is definately not the game for you.
Suggestions: Geez, how hard is it to make a decent Batman game? Get with it...

Overall: The game is good i liked it alot its probably the best batman game to come out . You get the face the joker, Mr freeze, Poison Ivy what other game could you do that in. This game is one of my favorites its exctly like the cartoon which was a great show
Gameplay: The gameplay is really good i still play it after i beat it twice you have all the bat gear like batman does batarangs, electric batarangs, batgrappler, nets, batcuffs, and remote carges. The best is when you face the villians.
Graphics: Visually the game was ok some parts the game was excellent like the movies they were great but like people sayy it was a little dark but in the beginning you can fix the brightness so itsnot really a problem
Sound: The sound was reall good they got Batman voice exaclty like and cartoon and all the other characters
Suggestions: Make it a little brighter

Overall: This is one of those games that could've been great. Obviously, the license is incredibley popular, which is amazing considering how old it is. The setting is well done, as well as the voice acting. While I thought there was too much emphasis on getting every villain in this game, the story was kind of interesting. The gameplay, you know, the part that matters, is pretty poor.
Gameplay: The gameplay divides itself up in sequences of exploring/fighting and driving/flying. The former plays pretty well while the latter is reminiscent of those terrible FMV games that were released for the Sega CD. I won't even go into how bad they were but will focus on what was wrong with the exploring/fighting segment.

First, what's with the limited use of the bat grapple. Tenchu had a similar item and you could use it basically anywhere. I realise Gotham City is many times larger and more complex than a Japanese village, but then so is the Xbox when compared with the original Playstation.

Also, why no detective elements? Batman is a detective. He has a brain, as well as the toned physique.

LAstly, what is up with those jumping sequences? Do you not have play testers? THat jump in the mushroom room was, flat out, poorly thought through.
Graphics: Kind of a mixed bag. The backgrounds look good. THe models don't, yet they animate very well. Still, I expect more.
Sound: Well done. Voice acting was very good, as was the music. All of the sound effects from the show were in.
Suggestions: Remember that 3D isn't good for jumping exercises, unless you're Miyamoto or Naka. Revamp those horrid driving/flying sequences. Use a story that is more focused. Allow more freedom. Incorporate detective elements. Hire play testers, or fire the ones you have and hire me.

Overall: To the batcave, Batman! Batman is back and he is showing his martial arts skills on the Xbox this time. Featuring those crafty gadgets, unique martial arts, trademark villains, and of course the cool Batmobile. Batman has fought criminals on many other consoles and Batman Vengeance seems to be the best out of any one of them. Just the downfall is that Batman Vengeance had the opportunity to show its potential on 2 other consoles with the PS2 and Gamecube also. Many directions have been put into effect with many other Batman titles, trying to make them more of like the movies, well this title goes for the cartoonish effect and to the human eye, it was a success.
Gameplay: Batman Vengeance is quite awkward with the storyline, but innovative. Sometimes I feel I got lost on what happened throughout the storyline. I will not ruin any of the storyline but the Joker saga just got confusing after the first encounter when he kind of takes a big fall if you know what I mean. The storyline at times seems kind of predictable with what's going to happen next. Featuring many of the arch-rivals, including Joker, Mr.Freeze and Poison Ivy, they rattled the storyline back and forth but it did justice for the title. You will face those baddies one after another and while it may seem repetitive, what else could you do? Sit down in the batcave and do nothing? Absolutely not, you need to be fighting none stop like the legendary Batman is always doing. Batman of course has a variety of gadgets he likes to throw around to defeat those baddies. Batarang, batgrappling hooks, batlauncher, batcape, batcuffs and many others. The most fun thing to do is driving the batmobile and batplane in a couple of missions they allow. The fighting throughout the game is entertaining enough since you take advantage of Batman's only super-power, the power of being smart and quick with his mind and body. Knocking around the enemies with your fist and feet, you box them around until they fall to the ground until powerbar is gone and you will have to handcuff them unless you want them to regain power and fight them again. Overall, sneaking through levels, fighting baddies and rivals, search and rescue missions are fair enough to be happy with.

Graphics: The graphics are the same as the PS2 and Gamecube ports. Nothing special here really, since they don't differ really except for some smoothing over from the other versions. The graphics look a little cartoonish but that isn't exactly a bad thing. To steal a quote from the WWF Wrestler, 'It's not a bad thing, its a good thing!'. Seriously though, a lot more better then the 2d players from the old console ages. Lighting seems well done, animations run quite perfect for a cartoony effect, and okay detailing of the characters. Many of the cut-scenes are blocky and seem hurried. The backgrounds are sort of bland and boring at times. The views are mostly from a 3rd person perspective which isn't that bad. You can switch to 1st person, which is good if you are the 1st person type. The graphics look good from both views. When in 3rd person, in one of your missions you have to become Bruce Wayne without the costum and Bruce Wayne looks awkward and unusual from any series, video and cartoons. It runs smoothly with 60fps which is pretty much standard.

Sound: It actually has quality music for this type of genre and the voice-overs actually sound real like from the cartoon series. The sound effects are like many others and are nicely done. Some of the sounds may just get you into the mood to play, some may not, it all varies. Overall though really, it all seems really good put together. Not much to say here since the voicing is well done to my standards and it isn't that spectacular to go on about.
Suggestions: Make the game a little longer, incorporate more of those baddies in the storyline like the evil Penguin and maybe some of that lethal Catwoman. How about being able to use those weapons without being in 1st person view? More use of the batplane, batmobile and maybe driving those awesome motorcycles he shows off in the movies. Stop porting games left and right. Take the time to make it for the XBox and use all the power that this wonder console has to offer. The backgrounds and cutscenes could be improved a bit since some of the cut-scenes are kind of blocky. Keep yourself away from the trend of horrible Batman games, though Batman Vengeance stopped the trend, this time around.

Overall: Not to bad, little tricky handling, probably targeted for younger players than I am. Although the graphics wern't "Fablous" and it was "to dark" ?!?! i dunno what they were looking at my tv got it fine.
Gameplay: Pretty interesting, cool that they have joker and his clown friend, cinematics were funny. would be interesting if they could come up with a cooperative mode.
Graphics: Its a Cartoon, if your looking for real drool type graphics go to halo, its the same thing with simpsons game, if you want super graphics go with a game that takes place in an area where you can have it... theres only so much detail you can get with a colored pencil
Sound: Very cool sounds, almost the exact same voices as in the cartoon, loved the "mr. Jays" hey at least they didn't cover the violence with "Bam" and "kap
owe"

Suggestions: make the plot more fun, make us want to play. if you want you can make all those people who wnt "super cool graphics" happy too.... im not sure how though

Overall: The gameplay is alright. Its not stunning and it doesn't look like it will win award anytime soon unless its for Worst Game of the Year!
It was average.
Gameplay: Nothing really brings you into the game. There isnt enough enemys to make you keep fighting. Basically you roam around 80% of the time flying off one place to another.
Graphics: WOW! It sucked! The cinematics were a nice touch. But I didnt see anything beautiful. It was pitch black. The only thing visual in this game was 80% Black. I guess thats why they let you adjust the brightness in the game. However the brightnes on full does nothing.
Sound: Pretty nice sound. The characters sound exactly like the ones in the chartoon and the punches and kicks sound nice too.
Suggestions: Make the gameplay better.
