I went into this game not really knowing what to expect. The cover art isn't anything special, and the name isn't very memorable. I had heard people try and compare it to other games like Morrowind."

Description

Arx is the name of an underground urban environment where your special experience will begin, in the realm of medieval fantasy. Be prepared to penetrate a world where the sun has slowly retreated and completely vanished. A world taken over by an unfriendly and threatening atmosphere, imposing the exodus of Arx inhabitants to the obscure meanders of a dwarf mine in order to survive. There, they had to become acquainted with an unusual neighborhood, among goblins, trolls and ratmen…

Overall: A true RPG set in an underground world. Battle with magic and weapons. Interact with different races. Prepare and cook your own food. Repair and magically enchant weapons and armour. There's so much to do, I can't possibly mention it all. Add in a dark, eerie feel and a deep storyline that get's more interesting as the game progresses, and this game will keep you engrossed for hours on end.
Gameplay: Not your typical dungeon crawler, this game is a true RPG offering complete control over character build up, weapons, magic, etc. The first person view works very well, as does the magic and weapons based battle system. There are plenty of side quests and lots of interaction with NPCs. Including Trolls, Goblins, Dragons and more. The game also has a huge assortment of weapon, armour and magic upgrades available throughout the game. The non linear gameplay allows you alot of freedom to explore the Arx world. The inventory system is similar to Diablo II. My biggest gripe is the in game map, it's basically unusable, but it's not likely you'll get lost very often.
Graphics: Even though the game takes place completely underground, the visuals never get boring. The games creators did a great job with the enviroments. Some of the NPCs look a little blocky at times, and the water effects aren't very good, but those are small details that don't detract from the games appeal at all.
Sound: Very cool! From the screams of tortured Goblin prisoners to the crackling of a fire or eavesdropping on your enemies conversation through a wall, the games attention to sound detail works very well in adding to the games overall atmosphere.
Suggestions: Improve the map system, the current one is basically unless. NPCs could look a little better, less blockiness and mouth movements that coinside with the words being spoken would be a nice improvement.

Overall: Boring. Terrible Automap!!!!!!!!!!!! Clumsy interface. I just can't get into this game. It's all been done before and doesn't break any new ground. I would probably love this game if it game out 10-15 years ago.
Gameplay: Your basic dungeon crawl. Been there, done that. This game takes a step back, not forward. I really wanted to like it.
Graphics: The graphics, although fairly realistic looking, are very bland and uninteresting. Poor resolution. Yucky.
Sound: No music in the game, just a bunch of repetative sounds FX here and there. Voice acting is so so. Some of the voices don't seem to fit the characters too well.
Suggestions: First, work on the graphics. Then work on the interface. Make it fun, don't make it seem like work.
