Hunter: The Reckoning

Overall: Rented this one and played with a buddy for about 6 hours. Glad I rented it first. I was caught up in the hype, but to me the game did not measure up. I found it very average. While we were playing my adrenaline pumped a few times, but the bosses required running away from them and firing for what seemed like forever. It was more tedious than challenging.

Once we stopped playing, I didn't use the game again for 3 days until I returned it. No big winner here, still waiting...

Gameplay: I found the gameplay repetitive although with the special weapon abilities you can get more proficient and "fancy" about killing the zombies. The camera was good, not many problems though in multi-player you can often get caught in a tough spot if you don't stay close together.

Graphics: I found the graphics just average. The cut scenes were about the same. Nothing stood out. The monsters were unique and fairly detailed.

Audio: Didn't notice the soundtrack much, but when I did it had an appropriate heavy metal/industrial feel to it.

Suggestions: Hard to say why this game felt so repetitive - I probably would've prefered a first-person perspective.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 MechAssault

Overall: Can't put it down. MechAssault has plenty of problems, mostly centered around the aweful user interface that allows you to play against your friends online. But despite that this game is just non-stop action and fun. It's hard to describe why, there's a limited number of maps, only about 2 or 3 gameplay variations, but it's almost impossible to put the controller down once you get started.
The variety of Mechs available is a plus. The destructible environments rock. The explosion a mech makes on it's way out is phenomenal. This is just plain straight ahead pedal to the metal fun.

Gameplay: This is where this game shines. The gameplay is great, simple to learn but difficult to master. You have a great variety of mechs, weapons, and accompanying styles to choose from that keep this from getting old.

Graphics: Fantastic. The mechs, environments, weapons effects, and physics are breathtaking. The explosion a mech makes in it's death throw is fun to watch every time - but don't get caught in it or you're on your way out too!

Audio: Well done. The weapons sound great. Explosions are full. The mechs sound "heavy." Adds to the quality of the overall gameplay.

Suggestions: Get the online lobby fixed, it's really inexcusable to have an interface that hokie.

More maps would be nice and definately more gameplay options would be appealing - how about Capture the Flag at least???

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Max Payne

Overall: This game definately held my attention. This is the first game I've played that compares to Halo as far as my interest level. The game could/should have been longer.

Gameplay: Loved the difficulty level, puzzles, and the uot; effect. The gameplay was awesome. I deducted half a point for the "drugged" sections of the game, which I found annoying.

Graphics: Visually this had everything you could ask for. The environment was very interactive and the cut-scenes were cool. I liked the comic book aspect of the storyline.

Audio: Sounded great. I liked the voice acting and the variety of sound effects for the weapons. Felt like bullets were whizzing by.

Suggestions: The game should have been longer and I'm partial to games with a multi-player option.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Madden NFL 2002

Overall: I have mixed feelings about this one. The look and feel of this game transcends anything I've seen in a video game system. However, I find the interface annoying and feel there are often too many buttons required to accomplish simple tasks. I find the gameplay inconsistent, especially in franchise mode. This is my first Madden title, and on Pro level difficulty I cannot beat the computer without using the Madden cards to "cheat." I will get into this further below, but say here that this greatly detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
This is still a very good game in two player mode, if your friends are patient enough to pick up the button configuration - there are a LOT of options in this game.

Gameplay: As I mentioned above, the main problem I have with this game is in the one player modes. The game is incredibly easy in the lowest difficulty mode and overly hard in the middle difficulty setting. The problem with the difficulty is that as it increases, the computer makes more ridiculous runs and catches while your team fumbles, drops passes, and gets penalties. This is not more difficult - it is more frustrating!
In the franchise mode with the salary cap option on, I found it impossible to build a team that could compete with the computer. This was a real disappointment because I was really looking forward to building a dynasty.
I save this one for two-player against friends now.

Graphics: Incredible. This game makes use of the power of the xbox better than any other game I've seen. There are still some glitches in players catching the ball, but it's really outstanding overall.

Audio: Really like John and Pat calling the game - it took quite a long time before I found them repetitive. I don't care for all the rap music during options screens, so I turned it off.

Suggestions: Work on the Difficulty level. I don't want to see ridiculous catches and no-mistake football from my opponent, I just want them to play smarter and provide a challenge.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 4x4 Evo 2

Overall: This game is interesting once in awhile when I'm in a mellow mood or really bored. Multiplayer action leaves something to be desired, my friends usually tire of it quickly.

Gameplay: This is where I think the game lacks something important: damage to vehicles. While it does allow for a seemingly endless array of upgrades, I was disappointed that no damage is caused to vehicles during a race. Also, in order to win a race against the computer you need to be in 4th or 5th place and then overtake the other cars right before the finish. If you are running in 1st, they will overtake you every time.

Graphics: Visually the game is really outstanding. The graphics grabbed me the moment I started playing the game. It is very realistic.

Audio: Preface: I could care less about sound as long as it's not annoying. The sound for this game was unobtrusive, which to me is just fine.

Suggestions: This game does not "grab you" and hold on. It lacks the intangibles that all great games have that keep you coming back until you're in trouble with your girlfriend.

Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved

Overall: Excellent gameplay alone or with friends. Great variety, good challenges, graphics are smooth and detailed. Game save functionality left something to be desired.

Gameplay: I played for 8 hours Saturday without blinking.

Friday before that we had 7 guys, 3 tvs, 3 xboxs and played till 3am.

Unbeatable experience for a guys night.

Graphics: Excellent in every way, maybe too much so. After a few hours of game play, my eyes have trouble focusing and I can't read for awhile. I'm serious about this - I think there is so much going on in the game my eyes get overloaded.

Audio: I like the soundtrack, it fits the game well and is unobtrusive (the soundtracks in games that I notice tend to drive me nuts quickly).

Suggestions: I would've liked to have more control over save functionality. I would like to save the game under one profile at multiple stages. I would like to be able to load my saved game and profile on a memory card for travel to friends with an xbox.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10
