Pirates: Legend of Black Kat

Overall: Really was just looking for a RPG until Morrowind comes out. The scenario intrigued me so I went out and bought it. I played it for several hours last night and am happy that I bought it (as opposed to renting it first). The game play is smooth and the controls intuitive. The look and feel of the game is very much what I expected. More details to follow...but I would say that overall I am happy with it after my first impressions...it was fun to play which is the bottom line. I expect that it will keep me busy until Bethesda releases the first XBOX game that I have really looked forward to...

Gameplay: Learning to play the game didn't take long. Not to say that is a bad thing...but everything was pretty straight forward.
Sword play is not incredibly complex...block , slash, jump. Later in the game you can pick up some thrown weapons.
Play while on the ship is a little more difficult...but not tough to master. I must say that the movement of the ship and the ship to ship batters were pretty cool...although initially I had a hard time controlling the ship and battling at the same time.
The game is not quite as complex as I had hoped...but still is pretty appealing.

Graphics: I thought the grahpics were great...smoth and detailed. From footprints that remain in the sand to the texture of the sea floor (where you can see the remains of your previously defeated foes). The lighting and color of the game was exactly what I expected. Also, I have 3 young kids the oldest of which is 6. I had no problem playing the game while they watched. In fact my 6 year old was glued to the TV and upset when we stopped playing (although he didn't want to play because he didn't want to fight the giant crabs). Also, I played on a 65 inch HDTV and ran it through my surround sound system. The image obviously wasn't 1080i but still looked solid.

Audio: Said this above...ran it through my surround sound system. Audio was fine...good in fact. But there were not a lot of surround sound effects...in fact I don't remeber the explosions taking advantage of my sub. Anyway, the sound effects were good and the music was not annoying and very pirate-like.

Suggestions: I would have made the game a tad bit more complex but I understand that they have to have a broad appeal.
